The Truth * * * *

A French film from a Japanese Director.  Hirokazu Koreeda is the same director who gave us Shoplifters.
The Truth - unlike this shonky blog
Apparently he is a bit of a fan of French Cinema (who isn't?) and wanted to give it a go.  He made sure he had some of their Royalty on board too with Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche with roles that they can relate to.
Catherine plays a legendary "mature" actress who has just written and released her auto-biography. It has many pages in it that are absolute fiction and paint her in a kinder light than her daughter or her agent would do.
She is also in the midst of filming a science fiction film (with a plot similar to The Age of Adaline) and she is somewhat threatened by the talent (and beauty) of a new up and coming actress.
Like Shoplifters it is a drama centered around the family,  with husbands, grandchildren and even ex-husbands all on board.  But this time it tends to leave you smiling at the happy "all ends well" resolution rather than leaving us to think what might have been.
