My People My Country * * ½

I'm not sure what the people in China would think about this film, but from someone used to a less condescending style of drama it comes across as rather jingoistic and naive, almost puerile.  Everyone is so sharing and caring and self sacrificing.  Though I must say it is beautifully shot.
Welcome to our World HK!
My People My Country was made for the 70th Anniversary of The Peoples Republic of China.  Symbolically it is made up of seven individual short films, each about twenty minutes, and each representing a decade.
Some incidents featured are, the first raising of the Chinese flag and a man who has to ensure it works, the development of an atomic bomb and a man who has to make sure it works (nothing like making your own mushroom cloud to bring out National pride), the Olympics and a taxi driver who wins a ticket but finds someone more needy.
The decade which included 1997 was a re-enactment of the return of Hong Kong to China, it featured a watchmaker entrusted in getting the timing right.  Contrary to recent events in Hong Kong everyone seemed rather happy about the change-over ... hmmmm...
