You Hurt My Feelings * * * *
Nicole Holofcener is a very fine screenwriter, she wrote Can You Ever Forgive Me?
Occasionally she chooses to direct her own screenplay but hasn't done so for a while. I am glad she has with this, because she has done a very fine job. It's a comedy with a lot of heart and quite a bit to think about.

I don't like your writing either, Mr. Reviewer! |
Nicole Holofcener tends to deal with sensitive unspoken issues: like how much money you have, how much you share, what is fair etc. In this film she deals with partner support. It comes as a shock to Beth to learn that her husband doesn't like her writing. Some information he shared with a friend.
He is an analyst and feeling somewhat unfulfilled in his work - especially as one (very funny) couple let him know what they think of his advice, "Our marriage is worse then ever!"
They also have a son who works in a marijuana shop and is also aspiring to be a writer. He's just broken up with his girlfriend.
Can Beth accept that her husband might not like her writing but still love and like her? As one's writing is often their most personal side exposed it poses an interesting dilemma.
