Bank of Dave * * * ½

This is a delightful little "feel good" movie.

Set in  North England, it's the story of a man who decided to start a bank. He was already well regarded in the the town of Burnley as a philanthropist.

He had a business selling and servicing van s and mini-buses Discovering that the major banks would not lend money to his potential clients he lent them his own money.  He was soon to learn that no-one ever defaulted on their loan. He also knew that people needed loans for items other than minivans.  Dave realised there was a need for a community bank.

A banker who actually cares
(and it's not a SF Film)
To ensure professional standards The Financial Regulators have a monopoly on who starts a bank and how it should be run, which is rather ironic when you consider the disgusting way the banks have exploited their customers, lost billions in the financial crisis and then mostly gave their senior executives bonuses.

Facts which are not lost on Dave and the people of the city of Burnley.

Dave engages a London law firm to help him with his application and a young lawyer is sent to Burnley.  There he develops a strong bond with Dave and an attraction to his beautiful niece - thus giving us our love interest.

It's a fun film with a lot of laughs,  and its rewarding to learn that it is somewhat true.  There really is a Bank of Dave.
