The Foreigner * * 1/2

Jackie Chan generally knows how to win our hearts, but in this film he comes across as a bit of a silly old arse.  I mean, the cops are right, he should just back off, go home and leave it to them. But he’d rather be a one man vigilante squad.  The fact that in the course of his activities he takes down some bad people is just a happy coincidence.
The old Chan would just kick ya nuts
He runs a cheap Chinese restaurant in London.  His daughter is killed by a terrorist attack by a re-birthed IRA, so he decides to get to those behind it all.  He’s pretty confident a Government official knows who they are so he leans on him, and even follows him to his country retreat in Ireland where the whole thing turns into a bit of a Gaelic/Chinese Rambo.
There are a few interesting sub-plots which suggest this could be a lot stronger, but overall it’s just doesn’t convince or get you on the edge of your seat.
Though I was rather amused by the way Special Branch dealt with the Terrorists when they got them. Would they really do that to them; or is this just the wishful thinking of those who are sick of terrorist activities?  Either way it was hard to shed a tear.
