Ted 2 * * 1/2

Seth MacFarlane is the creator of “Family Guy”.  If you’ve seen that you already know that dogs can talk and the smartest person in the family is the smallest.  Ted makes more sense knowing Seth MacFarlane and his team are behind it.  But here’s another weird thing - and I'm probably reading too much into it - but It also makes sense if you consider Mark Wahlberg might be satirising some of the wrong and bad things he is reputed to have done when he was young.
If you liked the first Ted you’ll probably like this too as it’s more of the same. And If you hated the first one  you’d better not waste your time or money on this as it’s more of the same: A trash talking Teddy Bear that has come to life and hangs out with a bloke in a dead-end job.  They drink too much, blow tons of dope, love dumb films  - especially the superhero and science fiction type; and they like porn too - lots of porn.  They make racist, sexist and gay jokes. They like to put down celebrities (who willingly cameo just to be put down); and sometimes they like to annoy innocent people just for fun.
It’s kind of funny actually but only because it’s not true.  I mean, Teddy Bears don’t come to life. Also because a cute Teddy Bear talking filth and being politically incorrect is funny (well I think so). But I also wonder if Ted is a Trojan horse designed to get under your defence of respectability and make you laugh at things you SHOULD NOT be laughing at.
In the first Ted, John (Ted’s owner/friend) got married to a really nice girl. At the start of Ted 2 he’s back where he started: divorced, wasting his life and watching crap TV and porn - lots of porn.  Meanwhile Ted has got married to a workmate at the supermarket where they work. (Yes the Teddy Bear goes to work and married a woman). Ted and wife come home each night and indulge in screaming matches and domestic violence.  Like many poor white trash before them they figure if they have a baby that’ll fix everything.  But Ted hasn’t got a penis of course.  So they decide to get a sperm donor.  Then they are told Ted’s wife is “So Fu*k*d up” from taking drugs she couldn't have a baby anyway (wouldn't you know it?).  So they decide to adopt.  Then another technicality appears. As Ted isn’t a person he’s not legally married and therefore they can’t adopt.  So John works with Ted to get the court ruling overturned and prove that Ted is a person not just property.  They've got no money but they do have a pro-bono lawyer of similar mind to their own (Amanda Seyfried). She’s young and believes in the philosophy of, smoke lots of dope first, figure things out later.  She loses (of course) but she arranges for the three of them to go to New York so they can talk a super lawyer into representing Ted (again with the Morgan Freeman). Meanwhile Donny from the first Ted is back. He wants to kidnap Ted and clone him. Anyway, why am I telling you all this?  I mean, who cares about the storyline, right?
Depending on your sense of humor Ted 2 can work or offend. Personally I had an okay time. It’s made up of smart lines, funny jokes, outrageous situations, shock humour, sick humour, black humour, more shock humor and - here's the redeeming clincher: love - a lot of love: (well, between Ted and John anyway).
