Death of a Ladies Man * * ½

I found this film immensely irritating.  Half the time I felt I was being served pap.

The story and protagonist have been around for ever, and this doesn't do anything new with either of them.

Is this what you wanted?

Ageing college professor who still retains good looks and a cynical charm, based on his huge intellect and amusing condescension, comes to a crisis.

Womanising and booze just aren't doing it anymore.    Plus he goes to the doctor and learns something else about himself.  I think that's partly to evoke our sympathy and make him more palatable. Doesn't work.  Neither does the corny song and dance choreography used from time to time.

The title and the songs are all taken from Leonard Cohen, and this silly film does very little to honor his memory or compliment his work.
