Fatale * * *

Do you come here often? Fortunately, no. |
Derrick is very successful. Him and his best mate have developed a sports management agency together. Rich with beautiful wives, they're doing okay. The Bro's go away one weekend to Vegas, where Derrick is encouraged to act like a single man "Just for the weekend". He ends up in bed with a woman he's just met. He feels a bit guilty but that should be the end of it.
However she reappears, but not as a stalker. It turns out she's a senior cop and when Derrick's house is broken into and he is attacked, she is assigned to the case. What are the chances?
Naturally we think she is related to the break-in. But we learn something different. However that doesn't make her a goodie. Far from it. She's got a lot of issues of her own and she decides to capitalize on Derrick's misfortune, especially when she discovers who really broke into his home and how that will make Derrick re-appraise the people he loves and trusts the most - and how useful he could be to her.
There is some good acting, especially considering the occasional clunky dialogue, and there are some admirable plot twists, but overall it comes across as "try-hard" and false.
With Michael Ealy in the lead as Derrick, the cast is mostly black, except for Hilary Swank as the detective. She's fine, but when it comes to a female cop with a dark past and a crazy sense of determination, I don't think anyone will ever compare to Nicole Kidman in Destroyer.
