I Feel Pretty * * 1/2

Poor Amy. It seems people are liking her movies less on each release. But it's not as though she is reacting by pushing back the other way and upping the ante.  Quite the opposite, her movies seem to be less confrontational and less shocking as they progress.  Maybe she should go back to her dirty ways.
Amy proves being a Trainwreck is
more profitable than being pretty.
I actually like Amy Schumer and have admired her success built on her terms and her individuality, but there is nothing individual about this film.  It just comes across as a run of the mill, forgettable comedy rom/com, and we already got bucket loads of those.
I Feel Pretty is quite a wet little drama with some awfully contrived scenes. The painfully manipulated ending is quite the worst.  She is a chubby girl with an attractive, but hardly beautiful face, who wants to be one of those drop-dead gorgeous girls.  One day she has a minor accident.  She awakens from unconsciousness with the belief that she is physically beautiful.
There is a message but it is rather clumsily conveyed. Basically, even if you are not beautiful, if you start to think that you are, other's might too, which is rubbish actually. (I once tried it and people just giggled).
Those who are beautiful and those who are not is actually a pretty fascinating subject, especially the advantages and privileges that are bestowed upon the beautiful as opposed to the rest of us. There are a few scenes where this is tackled and they're the best of this film.
The opening theme music, "This is the Day" might turn a whole new generation (or two) onto the band TheThe though: nice choice, (it still sounded great after 37 years).
