Whiskey Tango Foxtrot * * 1/2

Two and a half!  WTF!
To be honest I thought this was a bit of a mess.  Maybe that’s what they wanted - to reflect the chaos that was around them.
I felt it was like someone telling us an intriguing story but making a hash of it. You wish it would stop trying to be so clever, stop embellishing, stop being distracted, and just tell the damn story!
It's the film of the book by Kim Barker who was a journalist sent to Afghanistan in 2004. She stayed there for a couple of years. During her time there she would be “embedded” from time to time with the troops when they went on missions.
She hung out in quarters where there were many other journalists. They got to know each other.  They were advised not to get too familiar with the troops.
The suggestion is that most of the journalists and photographers were young bucks because they were the only journalists that would go there.  The drinking and sex was prolific.
Tina Fey plays the main character. If there is a story it is mostly things that happen to her and the relationship she built with the other journalists.
It feels more like television than cinema as events and characters come and go.
Towards the end it seems desperate for a story they tell of the kidnapping of one of the journalists who she has become particularly close to.
Like television comedy there are some very funny scenes in WTF but it’s far from memorable.
