I don’t understand this film. Really, I don’t understand it. I guess I’ll have to go see it again. I mean, I get the basic story which is really quite good. Brit Soldier sent with his platoon to Belfast in 1971 where the IRA absolutely hated them and would happily kill them. He gets separated from his troop. Wounded and alone in Belfast, wearing his “look at me” uniform, and no way of getting back to the Army HQ. Pretty good story. And if you're happy with that you might enjoy this. But like me you might be wondering about the couple of dozen secondary characters who all look and talk alike and who want to catch this soldier for different reasons - some to kill him, some to rescue him.

Sweet Jeezas Mary and Joseph! they’re a confusing lot, right up to the very end. So is his personal story back in England which they top and tail the whole drama with. Looks good, acted well, tough and tense. I just wish those involved in the making of it had considered that we might be confused by the characters and story lines which they had developed over months. It might be obvious to them but it was damn confusing to us on first viewing.
