On The Rocks * * * *

Going undercover in a loud red sports car
In my opinion Sofia Coppola never puts a foot wrong.  I have liked every film she has made, which is more than I can say for her Dad.

Her most celebrated film is Lost in Translation, and in some ways this has a similar scenario with an older man and a younger woman working as a team, except this time its father and daughter.

He has been a successful art dealer and has a stupid amount of money and spare time. He's been a philanderer his whole life and knows the signs when another man is leaning that way.  He begins to have suspicions of his son-in-law.  He shares his thoughts with his daughter.  She finds the suggestion ridiculous, but slowly the "evidence" he comes up with begins to make her feel something is not right.  Together they set out on a kind of "undercover" operation to see what her husband is up to, ultimately learning more about each other than her husband.

It walks a fine a line between funny and charming to downright irritating. Fortunately, for me it was mostly the former.
