Bad Times at the El Royale * * * *

Like The Hateful Eight, which is the film this most reminded me of, this is a theatrical piece featuring several shady characters thrown together for one night in an hotel.
Jon Hamm reflects on his role
I don't know if such an hotel actually exists but the state line dividing California and Nevada runs right through the middle of it. So you can choose a room in either State.
The story of each guest is told to us individually as the web of intrigue grows and the strange and disturbing conduct of each individual is explained.  We're dealing with FBI agents, bank robbers, girls on the run, extortionists, guilt ridden serial killers, megalomaniacs and a whole bunch of other issues making for an explosive cocktail.
It's set in the late 60's.  All the performances are great, but I thought Jon Hamm as the salesman with a secret just nailed it.
