Three Identical Strangers * * * 1/2
This happened in my time, yet it is the first I have heard of it.
In the eighties three estranged brothers shot to fame when they discovered each other. Born as triplets in 1961 and separated at birth, they were adopted out to different families. Through an extraordinary set of circumstance they discovered each other in 1980 - and this was before the internet!
After that, they became inseparable. They also became famous and were on every talk show in America. Even though they'd had quite separate upbringings the three brothers had an instant brotherly love. They moved in together and soon did everything else together. They even dressed the same. Their similarity was remarkable.
As we know, their fame and popularity did not continue as no one hears of them anymore. But in their time they enjoyed their celebrity status and even invested wisely in it by opening a restaurant together that actually worked very well for them.
You might wonder why a documentary on these boys and their remarkable story hasn't been made before. Actually there has been two of them But neither of them made it to the finishing line. Which makes you wonder, who or what could stop them?
Needless to say, something very dark had been going on in the background which I can't tell you about without spoiling the film. Suffice to say all was not kosher with the Jewish adoption agency and the agreement struck with the adopting parents.
Despite sharing the elation as the three brothers discover each other, in the end it leaves you with a sense of sadness, anger and indignation. I can only imagine how the brothers felt!
