The Breaker Uppererers * 1/2

I can't believe this is from the same producers who gave us Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople.   Most of the time it's just a couple of  women indulging themselves with their own style of puerile lowbrow comedy.
Co-directors, co-writers and and co-stars
in a creative and  original pose.
I think what makes them so unappealing is their idiotic self-confidence, like a couple of drunken Mum's at a local fundraiser (you know the type).  They seem certain that just by being in any scene and larking around it will be a scream. Every time the lackluster, thin, story deflates (which is a lot) they break into another appallingly choreographed song and dance routine, quite certain we'll just love it (them).
It has one or two (almost incongruous) scenes where that unique deadpan NZ humor comes through, but mostly it lacks imagination, originality and creativity.  I don't know how it got this far.  How come no one had the sense or kindness to euthanize it during production?
It took a real physical effort not to walk out. "Just give it a chance, give it a chance" I kept saying to myself as the ninety minutes slowly ticked away.
Actually it wasn't the advertised ninety minutes, it was only seventy five -  mercifully. The last fifteen minutes is just credits rolling as they do another dreadful song and dance routine with "bonus" out takes from all those hilarious scenes we'd just been treated to.
