Adrift * * *

Here is one that is all at sea.  Not a bad story but needs an anchor.  Get's a bit wet at times.
Okay... okay...
It's a dramatisation of a true story that happened in the eighties.
Whilst globe trotting with a backpack and taking any kind of work, a nice American girl meets a nice English boy in Tahiti.  He is an experienced sailor and has his own yacht.  They strike up a friendship which leads to romance.
Check the weather forecast please Dear
One day he is given an opportunity to sail a  much bigger yacht  to America. Apparently this really happens a lot in the sailing world. People get paid to sail someone else yacht to another port so they can pick it up later..
Two young people in love get to sail a ripper of a boat across the ocean.  What could go wrong?
A lot.  Just ask the weatherman.
They have edited this one wrongly in my opinion, stealing  a lot of its potential intensity.  Especially when you compare it to the similar All is Lost where we were out in the ocean with the protagonist the whole time.
In Adrift you start off with the catastrophic situation. The boat has barely survived a storm, the main mast is broken, radio is kaput, engine won't start, he's got a broken leg. Then we go back to how they ended up in this pickle, then back to the boat, then back to their romance, then back to the boat. so we are see-sawing to the point of irritation and the drama comes dangerously close to hitting the rocks (there I go again).
But overall it's an entertaining film with a surprising ending. Well actually there are two surprises.  One I won't tell you because that would be a spoiler.  The other is that she still sails. Some people never learn!
