Black Panther * * *

I just don't learn do I?  If it's based on a comic book I SHOULD NOT go and see it.
The team minus the token white guy
(well, that makes for a change)
However, the reviews of this were so over the top I thought I'd better go have a look.
Okay, I get the analogies, the dilemma of the refugee, the reluctance of a wealthy nation to bail out a poor nation. Most of all I get the black politics and was actually admiring the way it handled it: the conflict between those who feel peace is the only way and the angry young man who believes a violent uprising is necessary to bring equality. I get the praise for the noble female warriors featured in the film.
So, yes it's better than a lot of other "Marvel Comic" stuff.  Visually it's spectacular, the special effects are mightily impressive, but I just couldn't give a damn about anyone.
Try as you may you just can't breath life into a comic book character. He or she was two dimensional from the start and ever so shall remain: shallow, empty, made of pulp. The best of this lot is a secondary character M'Baku with his occasional hilarious wise cracks.
We still got the same silly comic book cop outs. Morphing and portaling and resurrection.  Yep, heap big magic will cure a lot of plot challenges - it'll also bore the crap out of you.
If you ask me (and whoever would? no one! that's why I write this blog, to tell you anyway) magic, superpower or such like are to storytelling what drugs are to sport - cheating.
But if the athlete is doing amazing stuff and breaking world records it's always entertaining to watch I guess.
        So is this.
