Everybody Wants Some * * 1/2

Ric's Bromancers. He can keep 'em! |
Even when presented as a work of semi fiction it feels like you are dealing with someone who is trying to compensate for their failings of today by exaggerating their past.
But the thing about Richard Linklater is that his achievements are so good there is no need for him to compensate or lie. Which makes me wonder what is this film all about? I mean this is the guy who gave us Before Sunrise and Before Sunset.
Let me come straight to the point - Everybody Wants Some is boring. Boring in the same way that someone boasting about their past can be boring. It's about a bunch of guys who were really good at playing baseball and consequently were given scholarships at some university in Texas. They live in a couple of houses which they duly trash as they host parties. They also go to a lot of parties at other peoples places.
The period is 1980 so we see disco, punk, and country music parties. Some of the music is pretty good, but the characters are utterly dull. At least they were to me. Richard might look back fondly on his "Bros" but to me they were about as interesting as the non-existent plot.
