Sicario * * *

Sicario is so well acted and the characters are so well drawn and it is so beautifully photographed, I couldn’t help wondering why they didn't put more effort into developing a clearer plot. Basically, a couple of FBI agents are seconded to a group, that seem to be CIA, to hunt down and kill the head of a cartel in South America. You need to hold on to that piece of information to get you through this. And even now I look back on some scenes and think “What were they doing that for?” “Why were they there?” “How did they know he would be there at that time?” Anyway, the actors seem to have found motivation enough for each scene.
The recruited agents find themselves breaking the law basically, because that’s the way things are done with this special ops group. It's just a matter of get the job done, don’t worry about the chaos you create, and don’t share too much information (actually this film is a bit like that).
Emily Blunt stars and although she looks a bit fragile to be playing hard-ball she does okay. Josh Brolin plays head of operations in a very convincing manner. But Benicio del Toro steals the limelight as a man with such a passion to kill the cartel head they just let him come along for the ride and do what the hell he likes. It’s a good film with some wonderfully tense scenes. I just wish it had been less murky.
