Big Eyes * * * 1/2

In my opinion this is the best thing Tim Burton has done since Ed Wood. It comes across as clean and efficient.  Being the story of artist Margaret Keane the lady famous for those ubiquitous paintings of children (usually waifs) with eyes as big as saucers.  She was married to a cad who took all the credit for her paintings, passed them off as his own, living a life of fame and celebration whilst’ she stayed locked up at home churning them out factory style. It was bad art then and it’s bad art now, but the story makes you love her and you even feel a small amount of sympathy for Walter her husband superbly (and hysterically) played by Christopher Waltz.  His antics in the courtroom are hilarious.  It’s a true story simply told, captivating from beginning to end.  (See how much better you do when you stop showing off Timothy?).
