The Imitation Game * * * *
This is a story about nerds in the 1940’s. Bespectacled quirky fellows hopeless at fighting but jolly good at figuring things out. A bit like nerds today. Except these fellows were fighting a real war as opposed to Call Of Duty or whatever. The Germans, who have always been dastardly clever, have developed an Enigma code to convey messages to their ships. Impossible to figure out but one chap does it with his “machine” which is like a precursor to a computer. In as much as he built a machine to conquer the Nazis Enigma code I think a similar machine exists to conquer film goers. Put in the formula and out pops the script complete with characters, conflicts, rises and falls in dramatic situations etc. Was this film created this way? You could be forgiven for thinking it was. But either way it works. A moving and engaging film with a tragic ending. He helped save England so England could be free to oppress and humiliate him for being a homosexual. Land of hope and glory.
