The Beekeeper * * *

A movie with a bit of a sting in the tail.

Starring Jason Statham as "Mr. Clay", The Beekeeper is a kick-arse, revenge type film - but what else does Jason ever do?

Mr. Clay is a retired agent of some sort and is now an apiarist living in the countryside in America.  He gets on well with his neighbour, a sweet old lady.  One day she gets scammed and loses all her money .... .and her life.

Mr. Clay, the beekeeper decides to hunt down those that scammed her and have a little chat to them.  After blowing up the building where they operate from he learns that this is just the beginning.  There are a few more levels above this loathsome bunch.   And so he presses on.  He has contacts and knows how to find where people are hiding.

This is where it gets interesting, or perhaps confused or just plain imitative? I'm not sure.  You see, he can call these girls hidden away in  basement somewhere. They operate computers that look like they are from the eighties.  And with these clunky old green screens they can give him the info he wants.  All a bit like John Wick.

These girls work for "The Beekeepers" which is a secret service beyond all secret services, and those that work for them are more dangerous than any other combatant.  The agents don't even know each other.  They are sent out into the field alone to "fix things".

Interesting analogy, apparently real beehives have such members and they make sure the Queen just does her business and doesn't get out of line.  I didn't know this.

Our hero used to be one of these agents.  Now he's retired but he can still do what he learned to do and he can still charm the girls back at HQ to give him information.

So sit back and watch him kick, punch, shoot, stab, amputate, drown, impale and all the rest until he reaches the top....the "queen bee".

Then he gets away.  Sounds like Beekeeper II in the making.
