The Death of Stalin * * * *
The Death of Stalin is a film by a Scotsman called Armando Iannucci (no wonder he's got a sense of humour). Armando gave us the excellent Veep, In the The Thick of It, In the Loop and (my favourite) Alan Partridge, who he invented with Steve Coogan.
Armando knows how to write a good political comedy and has mercilessly lampooned the White House and Downing Street for years. With The Death of Stalin he's decided it's the other sides turn for a good send-up.
One of the funniest features of The Death of Stalin is that none of the actors try to put on an accent - Stalin talks like an East End Londoner, Kruschev like a New Yorker.
As the title suggests it's about the death of Stalin and the immediate grappling for power among the Committee.
I don't know very much about Russian Politics and after this film I'm not sure if I know more or less: but I was highly amused. It's very funny.
